The SitaWare Track Server

Real time situational awareness in a browser
Systematic SitaWare Track Server - simplifying the live common operational picture

Systematic SitaWare Track Server provides situational awareness via a web browser that allows all authorised personnel with a standard internet connection to get a near-real-time view of the battlespace instantaneously, whenever they want, regardless of where they are in the world.

The track server is totally unique, not least for its capacity to completely simplify the establishment of a common operational picture across air, land and sea in an ordinary web browser, with a rich user interface and performance previously unseen on a thin client.

Systematic SitaWare Track Server is a versatile solution that integrates all sorts of tracks and complex geometric figures and presents it to the end user in a simple browser. It takes input from the most common military standards e.g. Link 16 (air tracks), NFFI (ground tracks) and AIS (maritime tracks), and the C2IEDM Database and shows this information on high performance maps, thereby creating a near-real-time situational picture based on international standards.

Utilizing the most modern Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), the track server subscribes to a web service that extracts Multilateral Interoperability Programme (MIP) compliant data for plans and orders which are also shown as part of the common operating picture. Systematic SitaWare Track Server also acts as a track gateway to the C2IEDM MIP world, enabling other systems to e.g. have an up to date live picture of the battlespace without the actual need to implement standards like Link 16, NNFI or AIS.

"We are very excited with the capabilities that the track server delivers to the market", said Michael Holm, President and Chief Executive Officer of Systematic. "At the recently held NATO CWID, we demonstrated live processing of 40,000 tracks on a single laptop pc, while still maintaining excellent performance. We have managed to simplify a complex problem and deliver an off-the-shelf solution that can be deployed immediately. We now expect many nations to see just how easy it is to establish a common operational picture at the joint and coalition levels".

Information from the track server is viewed in Systematic SitaWare Common Operational Picture Viewer, which utilizes a thin client web browser to display the near-real-time picture of the battlespace.

Users can customize the view by utilizing a range of sophisticated functionality to create the most relevant view for the mission at hand. For example, a user can open up several different maps, one showing the complete operational picture, one focusing on land tracks, one focusing on air tracks and one drilling down to a specific area of the battlespace. The options are virtually limitless. Using GIS map servers such as the ESRI GIS Server, the track server can utilize virtually any type of geospatial information (e.g. naval charts, satellite maps, land maps, air corridors, weather data, street maps).

If a user clicks on a track, they are provided with a range of information about the track like co-ordinates, direction, identification information and much more.

As Systematic SitaWare Track Server is part of the SitaWare Suite, it is compatible with all other products in the range. The SitaWare Suite comprises a range of off-the-shelf command and control products that scales from the land component command down to the individual soldier.

Systematic especially see synergies in utilizing the track server with Systematic SitaWare Portal for larger headquarters such as Brigades and above where plans and orders can be prepared collaboratively and the near-real-time view of the battlespace shared immediately. In effect, the track server creates the basis for situational awareness throughout the complete chain of command.

At the Headquarter level, the track server provides access to many users independent of their physical location. This enables the mission area to link to the national headquarters and the national headquarters can link to other headquarters. Track server also demands no client installation, ensuring that it is simple to administer.

Apart from the traditional military applications, the company also sees a civil application for the product. In fact, Systematic has already sold the track server in Denmark, to a nation wide freight company.
